World Cup Warm up Matches England v Peru
As preparations for the World Cup gather pace, there are some high-profile friendly matches to whet the appetite. This week the pick of the action sees Roy Hodgson’s England take on South American opposition, as they take on Peru at Wembley on Friday night.
Phil Jagielka thinks that if England can gain some momentum in the next couple of weeks, they will be able to enjoy a successful World Cup.
The Everton defender, who only recently returned to action after enduring a two-month lay-off because of a hamstring problem, hopes to play in England’s friendly against Peru on Friday. England are available at 7/1 to beat Peru 2-1, while Wayne Rooney is 20/21 to score at any time.
Jagielka said: “It is all about momentum. “If we can get some decent results in the friendlies we have got before the tournament, confidence will be high. People may be playing down our chances but momentum is a fantastic thing in football. The lads are really positive.”
Elsewhere in other warm-up fixtures, World and European champions Spain entertain Bolivia and Paulo Bento’s Portugal take on Greece in Lisbon. Germany and Cameroon then conclude the weekend action when they meet at Borussia-Park on Sunday evening.
After England’s Wembley clash with Peru, the players will fly to Miami where they will play warm-up games against Ecuador and Honduras
