Well we have to say that even though the owners appointed a novice manager, we certainly did not expect to be writing this article again this season.

Henning Berg managed just 10 matches and 57 days in charge of Blackburn Rovers, during which time Rovers have won just once; a run of form that has seen them slide down to 17th in the Championship table.

A Boxing Day 1-0 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough, a fifth loss in their last six games, appears to have been the final nail in his coffin. The club’s Indian owners decided to bring out the axe for a second time this season, they have also dismissed assistant boss Eric Black and two other coaches in bid to stop the rot.

A club statement read: “Blackburn Rovers FC has announced the departure of manager Henning Berg, assistant manager Eric Black, first team coach Iain Brunskill and goalkeeping coach Bobby Mimms with immediate effect.

“This decision has been taken following a very disappointing sequence of results.”

“The club thanks the four men for their efforts and wishes them every success for the future.”

So where do the owners go from here and who will be the next Blackburn Manager?

A swift appointment will be needed to stop their slide toward League One. Of course there is always the currently trendy option of appointing an interim manager to carry them to the end of the season, but with quite a few quality candidates looking for work we can’t see the owners opting to just stick a plaster over a gaping wound.

Former boss Mark Hughes is the strong favourite with most bookies to replace Berg, with others opting for Ian Holloway at the top of the list, Alex McLeish, Roberto Di Matteo and Brian also in the running.
